Life of an Encoder. Entry 001

Welcome to the first edition of Life of an Encoder!

I have come across some weird things while encoding documents for the common Pagadianon, and I will attempt to document these, umm, glitches in reality as I type my wrist into carpal tunnel syndrome.

Have fun!

So, to start…

A high school investigatory project about the relationship between sex and Math scores. Which begs the question: Gender or the act?

Powered Up

Yay! the CD-R Angels Shop is now online and operating under full power!

The day before yesterday, the four shops affected by the power service disconnection due to our landlady’s non-payment of dues finally banded up and paid what amounted to about PhP 10,000 in fees to the local electrical cooperative. At three o’clock the same day, power was restored. We rejoiced and basked in the full glory of cool, ventilated air and fast DSL internet.

Until fate turned the wrong card on us.

Large cargo trucks have been coming and going through our street lately, presumably due to the road-widening project at the west-bound highway. One of them made a careless turn at the corner near our store at about 11pm that night, and snagged the low-hanging electrical cables there. 15 meters of cable lay worthless and dangerous, our power meter was torn to shreds, and power was cut.

The next morning saw me fuming in quiet, smiling rage. I rarely lose my cool, but a week of no power can reeeeeally ruin one’s mood. I went away to cool off at my churchmate’s house, until, finally, at 3pm yesterday, power was brought back thanks to righteously indignant shopowners and about Php 2,000.

God help the man who snagged our electric line, he was logged on the police blotter and was continuing his journey (escaping?) to Zamboanga City, with our neighbor threatening to contact the Land Transportation Office and sueing for damages.

Me? I’m just glad the power’s back. Now I can continue watching Full Metal Panic :)

Low Power, Job is Offline

The CD-R Angels shop, the place where I work, has been out of power for the past week. Due to mismanagement by our landlady, we had been disconnected from the grid and in turn, lost our customers.

Our boss was furious, since she had been paying her bills on time to the landlady, even giving her loans. We in the meantime just hung around, waiting for the lights to come back.

Four other shops are out of power due to the outage, but two of them managed to get connections through extension cords from Lord knows where. And they refuse to share, dammit, citing possible system overload.

So my money’s back to zero, no job = no cellphone load = worried girlfriend = anxious me.

Networked at last!

At last! We now have a two-computer unit network at the CD-R Angels shop.
After weeks of going through the hassle of shuttling the Internet cable between the two functioning units and losing customers in the process, I finally gave up and bought a 3 meter LAN cable for PhP 90.
I turned in early and switched around the computers, cards and such, hooked up the cable, and bingo. Networked shop.
Now searching for a good LAN multiplayer game for bloody combat during off-peak hours :)

First post!!!

Finally, after months of waiting, I finally got myself an account on 000webhost.com! Incalculable Randomness has moved from server to server since its inception, so this should be the last move. Or else.

So. Incalculable Randomness shall be the receptacle for the chaotic mix of ideas and thoughts I call a mind, or in common parlance, a blog. My blog, to be more specific. So expect more random things in the future!

Watch out, I’ll keep you posted.
